Bells of Ireland
Moluccella laevis
One of my absolute favorite scented foliage additions. I can’t help but shove my face into them for a sniff during harvesting. But mind your sniff that you don’t get one of the unassuming spikes up your nose. The scent is unlike anything else and hard to describe but it’s a clean scent reminiscent of an apple candy or citrus spritz.
The color is a gentle and soft lime green and really pops next to softer muted pastel hued flowers. I personally prefer to snip away the green leaves so the spire of bell cups can shine on their own.

Seeds can be sporadic and slow to germinate. But patience pays off as long as you over seed to anticipate. Generous self seeding if plants are left to go to seed. Plants appreciate the cool of spring so start early 6-8 weeks before last frost.
