Does growing a robust Dahlia garden excite you? Having continual blooms from June to November seem like a dream? But does the tending and over wintering intimidate you?
Join me in the garden to discuss, learn and get hands on muddy. Dahlias do not have to be scary or complicated. Let’s break it down and figure out what works best for you and our growing region.
I’ve been growing Dahlias seriously for the past 10 years. I had always purchased dahlias and roses to plant in any rental property near the front door but 10 years ago the passion took hold. I’ve tried every trick, suggestion and been on a few struggle busses as I figured out what worked for me.
We will talk about what dahlias need to thrive, over wintering myths and facts. How to divide, storage and then what to prepare for in the spring: cuttings and planting.
We will tour the garden and evaluate timing and fall cleanup considerations. Each person will get a chance to dig up one of my plants, divide and take home some tubers to practice storing and taking cuttings in winter. I’m going to send you home with a few options to try your hand at over the winter to gain propagation skills and confidence.
Please come prepared for any weather conditions. Rain or shine we will be getting muddy. Muck boots, rain coat and gloves for wet and mud required.
I’ll have some drinks and light snacks to fuel us for this robust workshop afternoon.
