A workshop learning about a combination of roots used for making medicinal tinctures and also for plant dyes.

Join me in the garden as we enjoy an afternoon getting muddy as we dig up roots and clean them for processing and storage.

What will we be harvesting?

Valerian (2 year old roots)

Ashwagandha

Echinacea

Madder

The first three are for medicine and the last one is saving for later use dry storage for plant dyes.

We will chat about harvesting windows and storage and we will even make some alcohol based tinctures and learn about maceration extractions and preparations for consideration when using fresh and dried plant material.

You will leave with your own small jar of tincture to take home and continue infusing, better connection to these special plants and the confidence to make and grown your own.

I learned many of these skills and techniques during my two year herbal apprenticeship back in 1999-2001 at Blue Iris School of Botanicals in Eugene Oregon. I am not recognized as an official herbalist but I was taught to work with plants in an ethical manner and enjoy encoruaging others to be curious and seek knowledge how to build their own relationship with the natural world.
