Natural Dyeing + Block Printing- Workshop

Join Christie Tackett from Moon Mountain Farm and artist Anna Brones for a full day in the garden exploring mediums that tune us back into nature and playful creative experimentation .
 
This is a special workshop that combines two parts:
 
Taking inspiration from the garden, we will explore both color and form, translating it into print and fabric. This unique workshop combines two parts:
 
Intro to Botanical Plant Dyes- immersion dyeing
Intro to Block Printing- a printmaking technique
 
We will start the day with a meet and greet over tea joining old friends and new to bond amongst the flowers. During the morning Christie will guide us through a foundational exploration of creating natural dyes with the botanicals grown here on the farm or found in your own garden. We will enjoy garden walks to study and observe shapes, patterns and colors, inviting you to let go of expectations and let the plants lead you.
 
After lunch, we will take all that inspiration from the garden and Anna will guide us in how to turn those garden inspired ideas into printed applications. We will practice using simple shapes to create repeat patterns and work our way up to a more detailed final block print that we will print on our botanically dyed fabric. You’ll learn the basics of cutting and printing so you can easily continue this fun creative practice back home.
 
Block printing is a fun and simple technique for making bold graphics that translate to all kinds of other uses:
 
Mending patches for clothing
Decorating napkins
Quilting
Personalized greeting and note cards to send to loved ones

A few notes:
As mentioned above, lunch is BYO but we will have drinks and snacks available throughout the day.
 
Weather permitting, we can manage working under cover during light rain, but we might have to make adjustments if heavy rain is forecasted. This is an outdoor activity involving walking on uneven ground. If you have any mobility restrictions please reach out and we can plan to accommodate.
